Krom funkcionira tako \u0161to poja\u010dava aktivnost inzulina, smanjuju\u0107i pri tom koli\u010dinu inzulina koja je potrebna za kontroliranje razine \u0161e\u0107era u krvi. Ri\u010dard Anderson, Ph. D., koji je vodio jedno ispitivanje u sklopu Centra za istra\u017eivanje ljudske ishrane (pri Odjeljenju za poljoprivredu vlade SAD), u suradnji sa kineskim istra\u017eiva\u010dima iz jedne bolnice u Pekingu, testirao je efekt kroma kod odraslih pacijenata u ranom stadiju dijabetesa tipa II. Prva grupa pacijenata dobijala je 100 mcg krom-pikolinata dva puta na dan, druga grupa je dobijala 500 mcg hrom-pikolinata dva puta na dan, a tre\u0107oj grupi je davan placebo (la\u017eni preparat). Nakon dva mjeseca, kod grupe koja je primala 500 mcg na dan pokazalo se zna\u010dajno smanjenje nivoa \u0161e\u0107era u krvi, \u0161to je bio znak da njihov organizam djelotvornije koristi inzulin, a za \u010detiri mjeseca je do sli\u010dnog pobolj\u0161anja do\u0161lo i kod grupe koja je primala ni\u017eu dozu. Kod grupe koja je primala la\u017eni lijek nije do\u0161lo ni do kakvih promjena.<\/h3>\n<p>Ranije izvr\u0161ena ispitivanja u Laboratoriji za vitaminsku i mineralnu ishranu Centra za istra\u017eivanje ljudske ishrane u Beltsvilu (1991), tako\u0111er navode na pomisao da nedovoljne koli\u010dine kroma u ishrani mogu da dovedu do pogor\u0161anja tolerancije glukoze, koje mo\u017ee da se ubla\u017ei uzimanjem dodataka kroma.<\/p>\n<p>Krom se u prirodnom stanju nalazi u mnogim biljkama i za\u010dinima, kao \u0161to su kurkuma i piskavica (\u017edraljevina), koje se neograni\u010deno koriste u kariju i \u010dat-niju, ali nisu ba\u0161 tipi\u010dni za ameri\u010dku kuhinju. Na\u017ealost, vrlo malo Amerikanaca dobija dovoljno kroma isklju\u010divo putem ishrane, pa su stoga dodaci veoma va\u017eni.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magnezij<\/strong> &#8211; Kroni\u010dno pomanjkanje magnezija rezultira slabljenjem kostiju, visokim krvnim pritiskom, vaskularnim oboljenjima i abnormalnim metabolizmom \u0161e\u0107era. Ispitivanje sprovedeno nad \u010detrdeset petoro djece sa dijabetesom i dvanaestoro zdrave djece, pokazalo je da djeca sa dijabetesom, zavisna od uzimanja inzulina, imaju ni\u017ei nivo magnezija u krvi nego zdrava djeca. Ovakve studije nas u velikoj mjeri navode na pomisao da nizak nivo magnezija pove\u0107ava faktor rizika od oboljenja povezanih sa dijabetesom i da mo\u017ee \u010dak da bude i uzro\u010dni faktor samog dijabetesa.<\/p>\n<p>Jedan od pove\u0107anih rizika sa kojima se suo\u010davaju dijabeti\u010dari jeste hipertenzija. Ima sve vi\u0161e dokaza da nedostatak magnezija mo\u017ee da bude klju\u010dni faktor koji dovodi do kardiovaskularnih bolesti, uklju\u010duju\u0107i hipertenziju i arteriosklerozu.<\/p>\n<p>Ispitivanja su pokazala da magnezij mo\u017ee da snizi krvni pritisak i pobolj\u0161a djelotvornost inzulina kod starijih osoba.
